Our goalkeeping situation
|
What do we do for the final 5 games of the season. Every time Randolph has played he's been impressive, and he's got a Euorpean Championships to look forward to.
Adrian has been fine, he generally does the basic stuff well but never really stands out. Can't remember the last time he won us a game.
I'd give Randolph a run through to the end of the season - he's earnt it and I don't think Adrian has done enough to keep a very capable deputy out the side

That's what our GK's are on, Andy D, now we know what the D stands for!
Anyone that would offer him a ONE year contract on the wages he was on at QPR probably needs their head examing.
That's the point that was being made. Green is not a sufficient upgrade at a two million pound a year price.
That you can't understand mathematics, even when the figures ARE EXPLAINED to you, is probably why we have so many fans going "why not replace Randolph with Green".
Because it would cost £2m per seasons, you daft bastard.
Ibrahimovic was rumoured to be asking for £600,000. So before you say "why not sign Ibrahimovic", BECAUSE IT WOULD COST £30m FOR ONE SEASON.
And we're not Real Madrid, PSG or, for that, matter, The Harlem Globetrotters.

As for Bentley, absolutely spot on. Would love him as our backup keeper, he's got all the attributes to be a top keeper

Anytone that thinks we'd offer Robert Green a 4 year contract on £50k a week needs their head examining.
In the unlikel event we look at him, if imagine the offer would be something like £10k a week for 2 years.

To really push forward, I think we need a better No.1 with Adrian as reserve

I wouldn't be surprised if Randolph wants to leave after the Euro's to play more. Saw the other day that the young Southend keeper Dan Bentley that we looked at last summer is out of contract so would only cost compensation. Anyone seen him this season? Thought there was someone on here who knows the family who I think might be Hammers

For me, Adrian is better than Randolph based on what I've seen.

Re: Our goalkeeping situation

the question is were the goals conceded in the last few games down to the keeper?
have we shipped goals due to defensive errors from defenders or not defending properly further up the field?

"Thing is that GREENO is on 50k per week" - he won't be in a few weeks. He'll be on nothing.
It wouldn't bother me to see him back playing the role Randolph has this season, that's if Randolph wants to leave of course.
Another option would be Bentley from Southend that a few people on here have raved about. Like Green, he's out of contract also.

Re: Our goalkeeping situation

Thing is that GREENO is on 50k per week, and Birmingham City where RANDO was has a salary cap of 5k.
Therefore over a season Greeno would cost us £2.4m. Whereas Rando costs maybe £400,000, a saving of £2m per season, £4m 2 seasons/ £8m 4 seasons over his initial contract.
Do you really think Robert Green as a backup keeper is worth £8m more than Randolph?

Sounds like the kid, Spiegel has been excellent in the DEV squad this season. I am more than happy with Adrian, if Randolf wants first team, I won't mind Spiegel sitting in on the bench.
The club seem to really like him.

He is always rooted to his line which dosen't help the defence.

Indeed Iron,
Exceptional he isn't , although only 1 of those, possibly 2, I would put down to him.
Piss poor defending as individuals & as a team is more to blame.

Randolph has let 8 goals in this week and the last four were from the total of about 5 shots.

Wouldn't be sorry to see either go if I'm honest.
Neither are exceptional, they're competent for sure but neither are outstanding.
Certainly not a priority to change either, but if we could upgrade then we should do it.

If he has a good Euro tournament can see a lot of offers for Randolph coming in? Both he and Adrian are good GK's IMO not a position we need to spend money on.

I dunno what happened to him. Was Barca's number 1 and vanished from football. Did he go to Standard Liege or something?
In an ideal world I'd get Butland. Superb goalkeeper at a young age but I'd imagine is well out our price range.

Ideally I'd sell Randolph and replace Adrian with a better keeper but I don't think we have the money and probably not a priority
